Board performance evaluation

The UK Corporate Governance Code states that evaluation of the Board of FTSE 350 companies should be externally facilitated at least every three years.  While this is not required of companies outside the FTSE 350, we believe that external facilitation is very valuable for the boards of all companies.  We have considerable experience in carrying out board performance evaluations for investment companies of all sizes, both on and offshore.

We take the issue of confidentiality very seriously and, in order to manage it, we limit the involvement of Trust Associates personnel to a maximum of two for each board performance evaluation. The content of our report will be for the Board alone.

Our approach is designed to be focussed, non-bureaucratic and highly effective.  Every attempt is made to keep individual directors’ time commitment to a minimum and to avoid personalising issues.  It is our experience that a sensitively carried out appraisal can identify issues at an early stage and enable steps to be taken to avoid them reaching critical levels.
